I'm back...and some recaps

The past few weeks have contained my very favorite days of the year.  Christmas being top on that list. It was wonderful this year! I took a blog vacation because my younger sister, Megan is in town and I've been spending my time with her and my family over sitting in front of the computer. Sometimes, even the busiest people need to sit back and be lazy once in awhile.   Thus, I am behind on blogging and have some catching up to do.  It seems silly now that we are a week in to January 2013 to go back and blog about Christmas but I imagine that some day, years down the road, my daughters will be paging through all these blog posts and end up disappointed if I didn't have a single photo of Christmas 2013 in Ethiopia for them to reminisce about.

I promise I have some really great adventures in Ethiopia to discuss, but before I can get to that, I have to write down a little bit about Christmas.
Megan arrived in Addis the Thursday before Christmas.  The next few days were a whirlwind of Christmas parties and festivities.  The girls were thrilled to reconnect with their Aunt Megan.  Ashlynn is the only one who took a bit to warm up to her.  Megan looks a tad too much like Mommy for her to be truly comfortable.  But now, after a few weeks; Ash has warmed up nicely to her aunt.

My much anticipated camera upgrade came along with Megan in her carry-on luggage!  I am a complete nerd because I had been reading Mastering the Nikon D7000 on my Kindle for the past few weeks in preparation for my new camera's arrival.  I'm really glad I did because I could hit the ground running with my D7000.  I knew immediately what settings to adjust and how to work the new features.  It's an exceptional camera.  It makes my 50 mm lens even better.  The first few days I sort of played around with some white balance settings and stroked it lovingly until the camera felt natural in my hands.
If my new camera wasn't enough for Megan to pack with her; she also brought a great selection of goodies from the States.  Our favorite salsa, cheeses, sourdough bread and corn tortillas.  All sorts of lovely treats.  This hunk of Cotswald Cheddar with chives from Trader Joe's is my absolute favorite cheese.  Justin and I took tiny bites and savored the goodness.

The picture of you kissing the cheese, is the best picture! I totally get it. We don't have very good cheese here, and I can totally picture myself doing the same thing! :)

I am glad that you are had a good Christmas.

I too feel very behind but its kind of nice in a way. I love blogging as a scrapbook for us (its amazing to me how many of our adventures I completely forget until I read the archives!) and its incredibly helpful when I'm fighting writer's block on another project but I hate when I feel like its taking over my life! A little vacation from the blog is nice now and then. Can't wait to see more photos from the new camera! (My pro photographer neighbor friend is campaigning that I upgrade. I feel so wasteful upgrading before my old one totally dies, but the thought of being totally without a camera makes me want to break out in hives. :) )
