vanilla frozen yogurt

I splurged on the large tub of Greek yogurt at S&R (Philippine Costco) this week so I could try my hand at frozen yogurt in my new Cuisinart ice cream maker. I wasn't thrilled with the recipes for frozen yogurt in the little recipe booklet that came with the product (called for corn syrup) and I checked online. All the recipes were calling for 5 or more cups of yogurt and I knew I didn't have that left after I let my yogurt eating monkeys devour half the vat of yogurt between Monday and Wednesday. So I did what I do best and made up my own recipe.

It's simple and perfect and I'm doing it every time I can get this Greek yogurt.

Melt-your-face-good Vanilla Frozen Yogurt by Sara
1 cup whole milk
3/4 cup granulated sugar
pinch salt
2 cups strained plain Greek yogurt
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

I let the yogurt strain through my homemade version of a cheesecloth for about 30 minutes. I used a very thin cotton dish towel (almost like a piece of cotton bedding). It did the trick just fine. Since I was using thick strained Greek yogurt to begin with I didn't need to strain it as long. Basically, use a Greek yogurt. It's the best consistency and flavor.

Next I mixed all the ingredients until the sugar has dissolved and then refrigerated it for an hour. After it was nice and cold I poured it into the frozen freezer bowl and turned the machine on. In less than 10 minutes the churning was done and we had the most amazing bowls of frozen yogurt I've ever tasted. It was extremely creamy and smooth. Next time I am going to lower the sugar to 1/2 cup to see if I can get this recipe even healthier for me and my kids. Lord knows they don't need any more sugar.

The girls weren't going to waste a drop!

We got the same ice cream maker for Christmas. We made frozen yogurt and Stella cried because she was expecting ice cream. It is seriously tart. We didn't have corn syrup so we used honey and maple syrup. It was yummy but tart. I want to try to make a key lime ice cream/yogurt.

Miss you guys!

When your "Cooking for Kids" cook book comes out, you now have the covershot. I wonder what a titch of lemon rind would taste like in that?
XOXO

Hi! Your kids are adorable! I came across your site, randomly searching for craft beer enthusiasts in Manila. Just in case you haven't discovered it yet, there is a shop in Gilmore Avenue, Quezon City called Gilmore Wines and Spirits. Owned by a buddy of mine, Mags Villafuete.

Yes they have ROGUE! As well as a host of other great brands like Southern Tier, Stone, Anchor Steam, Sam Adams, Anderson Valley as well as Belgian Trappist brew and other imports.

You may call Mags at 09178515688. I hope your husband finds a little bit of home with every sip...or gulp! Oh and prices are reasonable. (P140 up)

Best regards to you and your family!

Manila Monkey, I can't begin to tell you how excited my husband was to hear about your friend's store in Quezon City. We will be making a visit soon. We really appreciate your comment. My personal favorite are the Belgian Trappist beers. Justin likes the IPAs. You probably already know that the Hobbit house also serves a good selection of craft beers from around the world. I had my first Trappist in years a few months ago and it was even better than I remember from back in the States.

Hi Sara! That's great! I'm a stout head though. I love Oatmeal Stouts, and rich Porters. Although IPAs are my second favorite. On the ultimate top of my list though is a Belgian Trappist beer, Rochefort 10 (Quad) that has consistently been placed top ten in the world rankings (beeradvocate.com, ratebeer.com). And yes! Mags has it! And he also can arrange for delivery (rates apply).

I hope to one day have a beer one day with you guys. My wife and I and two year old Brayden live in Makati and always welcome new friends! In my trips to the States, it was never hard for me to meet great people either.

Website is at http://69wax.multiply.com, superwack69@yahoo.com.

Have a great week ahead you guys!
