gingerbread women

and men, trees, stars and teddy bears. Addie was really thrilled to decorate the gingerbread women with the skirts. She picked a few out to give to her teachers at school today. Yesterday she piled on the frosting and candy decorations. Watermelon and cherry Nerds candy don't really go well with the gingerbread cookies with cinnamon vanilla frosting but they were the right colors for Christmas so what the heck right?I really like how the cookies turned out. The gingerbread flavor is subtle. I've made some in the past that are really dark brown and spiced heavily. These are mild and perfect for frosting with homemade frosting. I improvised with my frosting. Basically combining butter, powdered sugar, milk, vanilla and cinnamon until the right flavor and consistency was achieved. The cinnamon is delicious with the vanilla. I'm not sure why I hadn't ever thought of adding cinnamon before. Here's the recipe for the gingerbread (you should be able to click and enlarge):
